Geographical Eligibility

Eligible students are: 

  • U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents who live in NY, NJ, CT, or PA.
  • College undergraduate students who are permanent residents of one of these states. 
  • U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents who do not live in NY, NJ, CT, or PA but who are currently enrolled in a communications program at a college/university in New York state may apply.

Cumulative GPA

To qualify for a NYWICI Scholarship, your current GPA must be 3.2 (87%) or better.

We will confirm your average when we receive your transcript.

The Essay

You must submit a 300-word essay on one of the topics below. (You can come back and attach it at a later date, up until the final deadline.)

Essay topics:

1. How good a job have news organizations done in covering the pandemic? How trustworthy is their information concerning mask-wearing, the COVID-19 vaccines or the new strains of the virus?

OR

2. What experiences during 2020 and into 2021 will stay with you into your career in communications? What have these experiences taught you?

OR

3. If you could have dinner with anyone living or dead, who would it be, what kind of of questions would you ask and why?

 

Note: Please put your name in the file name: mary-smith-essay.pdf or jean_doe_essay.pdf. (PDF format preferred, but .doc and .docx are accepted.)

Attachments

Below you need to attach your essay, resume and two letters of recommendation. Please name each file using your name: YourFirstName_YourLastName_essay.pdf (mary_smith_essay.pdf). PDF format is preferred, but you may use .doc or .docx formats if necessary. If you need to add the files at a later date, you can click the link in a confirmation email we'll be sending you to return to the submission form.

If you are applying to the Carlozzi Foundation Scholarship, please include the URL(s) to a representative sampling of your writing.

Attaching Your Transcript(s): You may attach an unofficial transcript in PDF format. Many schools offer this option for downloading a complete set of grades. Important: If you make it to the final round, you will have to provide an official transcript from your school. If your school does not offer the unofficial transcript option, please have your school email a PDF version of the transcript to info@nywici.org. If there are any problems related to getting your transcript in on time, email info@nywici.org and use the subject line: Transcript Problem.
