Be sure to read Recipient Obligations and candidate qualifications and requirements before you begin the application.

The Scholarship Application will be live on November 18, 2017. Anything submitted beforehand will automatically be deleted.

Geographical Eligibility

Eligible students are: 

  • U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents who live in NY, NJ, CT, or PA
  • High school seniors who are permanent residents of and attend a high school in one of these states and will graduate in 2018 
  • College undergraduate and graduate students who are permanent residents of one of these states 
  • U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents who do not live in NY, NJ, CT, or PA but who are currently enrolled in a communications program at a college/university in New York state may apply.

Cumulative GPA

To qualify for a NYWICI Scholarship, your current GPA must be 3.2 or better. For high school students, your average must be 87 or better. We will confirm your average when we receive your transcript.

About Named Scholarships

The Essay

You must submit a 300-word essay on one of the topics below. (You can come back and attach it at a later date, up until the final deadline.)

Essay topics:

1. What communications career do you plan to pursue? Why?  What are the current challenges and what would you do to overcome those challenges?
 

OR

2. How do you consume content (e.g., news, movies, series, podcasts, etc.)? Do you use different technologies depending on the content (e.g., news on your phone, Netflix on your laptop)? What are the pro and cons of each platform?

Note: Please put your name in the file name: mary-smith-essay.doc or jean_doe_essay.pdf. (PDF format preferred, but .doc and .docx are accepted.)

Attachments

Below you need to attach your essay, resume and two letters of recommendation. Please name each file using your name: YourFirstName_YourLastName_essay.pdf (mary_smith_essay.pdf). PDF format is preferred, but you may use .doc or .docx formats if necessary. If you need to add the files at a later date, you can click the link in a confirmation email we'll be sending you to return to the submission form. You also need to have your school mail us an official transcript, which includes your Fall 2017 grades. (High School Seniors: If you haven't received your Fall grades, please send us your first quarter grades, then follow up with your Fall grades when you receive them. Call us if you have any questions.)
